Random Gist:
CHANGES
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Where will our style go????
We hear that as from the coming semester, Covenant University
will be supplying trousers, (blue, brown, black…) and customised Covenant University
shirts which I doubt we would be able to perform our regular starching rites
on… to boys. We wonder what is next for our pretty Queens of Hebron. I think
after this, most university awards would have one less participatory school.
CU bans all portable devices except CU tab:
Rumours tell us that the V.C. bans the use of any other
portable devices other than the “CU TAB.” This would mean that students would
not be able to use the popular IPod, which over 30% of the student population
possess, due to some students being caught making use of their IPods during our
Tuesday Chapel Service.
S.D.C., our STUDENT DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE.
The most avoided and never-wish-to-be-summoned-by-committee,
we heard summoned some student in Joseph Hall for stabbing chapel service. Our Amebo
Rep. surprisingly gave us the gist that they were carted away by the committee
in the popular white bus in their under wears… hmmm. What is going through your
mind right now? Lol.
Pastor Charles
Our ever hilarious Chaplain asked for all Daniels in the
Sunday service to come out. This is the second time in this semester it will
happen. The other time, he had called out a young man named… well I can’t
recollect now, but it was quite a show. May the Spirit keep leading…lol.
No EXEAT?
Recent happenings have caused the school to suspend exeats
temporarily. But we think this excludes bank exeats. We don’t know the reasons
for all these changes yet but we promise to get you the real GIST!!!
Hall
officer asked to remove trouser and lapel pin.
A hall
officer in Covenant University was asked to remove his trouser. We guess the reason
for this was that they were jumps. Also, he was asked to remove his lapel pin
because allegedly it was a cultist symbol. Co-incidentally the lapel was an
eagle with its wings spread. Funny enough, graduates of this great institution
are referred to as ‘EAGLES.’ Again, we have a statue of an Eagle, always
smiling at us in a very conspicuous location on campus in HEBRON. Hmmm.
Love meets
Photography 3.0.
“Love
meets Photography” is a photography event that holds every valentine season. This
should be the third edition. There tends to be a lot of fun. Many photographers
would get a chance to stun us. Piece of advice, come with bae…lol. Not a
necessity though, just have fun with it.
CUFL
The
football league in Covenant University is going quite well. Very exciting debut
matches have been held already. For some levels, preparation is still on-going. It has been a lot of fun
though. More interestingly, the 100 level league has already had a lot of
hitches. Many star players and squads have begun to pull out due to minor misunderstandings
between themselves and the organizers of the league. Recently, about four fights
were recorded in just one day pertaining to this same issue. Well, the
headliners so far are students from M.I.S.-Computer Science alliance and the
Estate-Management guys. Hmmm.
The Final Year league kicks off today.
CHAPEL SERVICE UPDATE
During Chapel Service, this week the V.C announced alot of changes to kick off soon, from the no other device to weekend exeat to sacking of staffs. The thursday chapel service as our rep said was filled up to the brim and quite intense with the chaplain finishing ahead of time, the V.C started with annoucement of some disciplinary cases three to be precise 2 for hard drug and 1 for theft of CuTab what caught attention was the level of the students 2 final year students and the last one a popular face in school a member of the social organ of the school (CampusLife) but rumours still go round that he was implicated that we cant confirm...The V.C reeled out performnace in the latest Webometric and Repository Ranking with Covenant cming first in repository and 2nd behind U.I in webometric he showed concern about the discplinary level of students especially 100 levels which he called 'rare breed' and promised expulsion of excesses before next session. He omplained about rise of drug addiction, posting of nude pictures, wilful damage of school property and unruly behaviour. He rose a case of the girl that left campus to hotel with her boyfriend after signing .The V.C emphasised on the C.H.O.P attendance.what an intense chapel service........

ALUMNI WATCH ::BEZ
Emmanuel Bezhiwa
Idakula, known as Bez (born 10 November 1983), is a
Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and composer, working in a
genre known as "alternative soul", a hybrid of soul, rock, jazz and R&B. He was featured in Pulse Magazine
as number one on the list of "Top 12 Musicians To Look Out For in
2014".
Emmanuel Bez Idakula was born in
1983, in Jos in central Nigeria. He grew up in a
musically inclined family, listening to gospel and country. As a child, he sang in choirs and
began playing his father's guitar at the age of nine. His parents recorded
duets, with his mother singing and his father playing the guitar, while Bez and
his younger brother, Anyidakula Idakula, and his two sisters, Eunice Chiedu and
Lydia Sobogun provided a sing along audience. Growing up Bez spent his time
fixing things, and dabbling in painting and sketching.
Bez lost
his father, who was a politician and Gubernatorial Candidate for Nasarawa State in Nigeria, at the age of twelve. His
family's finances crashed as a result and he could hardly afford to pay the
rest of his tuition for high school. An anonymous person paid for his High
School education. In College, he received help paying his fees, as well.
Upon
finishing Loyola Jesuit College,
Bez attended and graduated from Covenant University in 2007 with a BSc in Information
and communications technology. He sang at open mic nights while at
university. One of such open mic nights was called Taruwa
("gathering" in the Hausa language), where the platform encouraged
artists to share their talent through music, poetry, the spoken word and art.
Here Bez played every two weeks and met Praiz, who he later collaborated with
on "That Stupid Song". Later, he read He-Motions by Bishop TD Jakes and
other spiritual and self-help books, which led him to the view that his purpose
in life is to add value to the world through his music. Bez's music video of "That Stupid Song", premiered on the renowned BET's 106
& Park, an
American hip-hop and R&B music video show, in January 2012. He was the first African artist to world
premiere his music video on BET and the first Nigerian artist to do a solo show
at the iTunes store in Soho, New York. He also had a show at the iTunes store
in Santa Monica, California for Black Music month in June 2012.
