Random Gist!!!
Hello
everyone! Welcome to another edition of AMEBO Friday. AS usual, we have a lot
of slushy gist for you this week...
Valentine this year…hmmm
As we all know,
coincidentally, this year, our valentine celebration is on Sunday. Well,
everywhere in the world, people would be trying their best to show love to one
another. This is our specialty here at Covenant University. Here, it’s like
every day is Valentine’s Day…lol.
However, this year’s
Valentine’s Day in C.U. is going to be a lot hotter than ever. With a lot of
orders being received, I guess gifts would be order of the day. Again, don’t
forget to be there at our favourite Love Meets Photography 3.0. It begun today.
So, just in case you have already missed today, don’t miss out tomorrow and
finally, more importantly, on Sunday.
P.S. the snippet video for
L.M.P. (Love Meets Photography), we hear, is out. Look out for it.
The Chancellor visits us.
The Chancellor came
visiting on Tuesday. During the chapel service, he charged on discipline. Attendance
as expected was high. You know, it was the Chancellor’s visit. The whole
gathering was alright though. It reflected better things to come.
Thursday Chapel Service.
Hmmm… This week was not
much of a shaker though. I guess the announcement made in the last chapel
service put up a kind of cooling effect to the hot-heads-referring to both
staff and students. The service went alright. Normal routines were observed,
nothing really striking. Well, that would be except for the “diss” or “call out”-you
would say- the Vice Chancellor gave staff that were leaving the chapel before
The Grace was said. It was very hilarious. He literally, told them to come
back, like right there and then began scolding them immediately. As usual, a
little light-jovial uproar was share by students…and
a lot of laughter.
Before that, the V.C. made
some pleasing announcements. During the week, Covenant University climbed to being
the second best university in Nigeria. (This was according to the Webometrics
Ranking). Like he said, it is an honour to be second to the great University of
Ibadan- who is acclaimed for its high standards and having probably about
thrice or even quadruple the number of professors we have here at C.U. This was
a good one by the C.U. We are proud of this achievement.
Also, he announced that
within the week, C.U. also received an award for being the Best African Private
University, as mentioned from the United States and that the Deputy Vice
chancellor was also conferred an award for Pioneer of Innovation and Excellence
in Tertiary Institution.
GOOD WORK Covenant.
Kudos!!!
Interesting Rumours!!!
This week was loaded with
a lot of rumours. You guys should know by now that bad news spreads faster than
good news, so be careful what you say. However, whatever the news, Amebonised
correspondents would always be there to give you the updates. Here are some of
the rumours spreading here in C.U.:
(1)A 200l level Marketing
student has been said to be pregnant.
(2)A girl displayed some
unpleasant behaviour and posted pictures online. The girl was blindfolded and
the picture taken from top. She is a supposed Covenant
University student but we
stand to believe that, no student of ours can do such.
(3)A particular 100l
student maybe expelled for smoking and possession of a cell phone.
We don’t confirm these
rumours yet but we promise more updates as soon as they come.
C.U. Help Desk Information
Water and power supply has
been very bad these few days in C.U. Lucky enough for us, these complaints have
been communicated to the Management. We pray they keep to their promise and
better these systems- that is for water and electricity.
CUPL
Like we said last week, the
CUPL has started for all levels. Interestingly, the Elect-Elect team plan to
unveil their, team’s jersey soon. We hear they are being sponsored by the
foremost online business transaction site in C.U., Pinforest. We are sorry but
for now, our score updates are only for the 100 level league. No worries though.
We are coming next week with full updates. But we have Team of the week for the
final year and fixtures for next weekk
SCORES FOR FIRST WEEK
Industrial Physics 3-0 Information and Communication Engineering
Computer Engineering 1-4 Mass Communication
Petroleum Engineering 4-0 C.M.I.S.
Accounting 1-1 P.S.I.
Elect-Elect 1-1 Civil Engineering
Building Technology 1-1 Economics
100 level League: There has been a lot of uproar from this segment of this year’s CUPL. There
seem to always be misunderstandings. Even today, there was a scene at the match
between Petroleum Engineering and Economics. A fight was about to happen and
then the school’s assistant coach stepped in to help. Even still, a 100 level
student decided to begin another scene trying to also fight the coach. This
time a 500 level guy stepped in to intercede. I guess a lot of slaps and punches
have been thrown and received today. I still do not understand why there should
be fights pertaining to irregularities in officiating in almost every match in
this league. This is quite appalling. Furthermore, rumours are spreading that
the league might either be cancelled or suspended. God please help them. Our correspondent
did not give us names so. For more information Come back next week.
Personality Watch: CALEB CHOVWEN
Caleb Chovwen is on the
spot this week. We went to see him in his room for an interview with us.
Luckily, he was around and he obliged us. He is a normal guy, well with a
twist. We asked a lot of questions and hmmm…, his answers were spectacular.
Caleb Chovwen was born on
the 10th of September-he did not disclose his age. He is a student of Covenant
University, 300 level to be precise. He is studying Building Technology. He is
a fashionista in the making. He said, “I am not into fashion. I am into ART.”
Well, like he later explained, fashion is a form of art. He says he used to
draw, presently sings, and can even rap. He likes music and loves paintings-not
by anyone in particular though. Yeah, he is an all-round artist. But as a busy
man, he just does these with his spare time.
His style, he said, is
inspired by God and people. He has brands and people in brands as style mentors.
Basically, he is inspired by Balenciaga
and Alexander Wang. When we asked
for African or Nigerian brands, he mentioned Orange Culture, Teeser and
another brand we were not clear on. He also mentioned that his mixing and
matching skills should be attributed to his mum.
He advised generally, for
C.U. students to just wear what looks good-“fine shirt, fine trouser, fine
shoe, fine tie...” and what would keep us safe from the M.S.S. guys…lol.
Caleb Chovwen is a smart,
intelligent and very responsible person. He is a good guy. This week, he was on
our personality watch.
“Live now like you’re
living in the future.”
-Chovwen, Caleb.
