vertical
In her unique manner of commemorating the nation’s Independence Day Anniversary, Landmark University held a Staff/Student Parley titled ‘A Departure from the Norm: Success Story of the Living Faith Church in the Nigeria Educational System’, on Wednesday, 1st October, 2014, at the Multipurpose Hall of the University .
The Registrar, Dr. Daniel Rotimi in his welcome address, intimated the gathering with the purpose of the parley which he said was to help understand the nation’s journey thus far in the Educational Sector, as every birthday calls for a reflection. Dr. Daniel Rotimi, who described as interesting the coincidence of the 54th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria with the celebration of the Chancellor’s 60th birthday, explicated the amazing intervention of the Living Faith Church in the nation’s educational sector, which is yielding awesome results. This, he said, was not accidental but a well thought-out and gracefully executed plan of God, which guarantees every student at Landmark University the all-round education, as knowledge is the currency of life.
The discussants; Mr. Shola Owolabi (CLR), Mrs. Shola Akanmode (UWC), Mr. Henry Nweke and Miss. Chidinma Okoro (both Students) did justice to the topic of the day. In their submissions, they highlighted reasons for the Living Faith Church’s intervention in Nigeria’s Educational Sector which were: lack of commitment on the part of leadership, Infrastructures, morals, productive engagement, faulty foundation of Nigeria’s educational system, disjoint between policy formulation and implementation. Other factors include: lack of total quality management, imbalance in the nation’s education administration and failure to take responsibility on the part of all stakeholders in the sector.
Furthermore, the discussants described the practical steps taking by the Living Faith Church to intervene in the sector as commendable. They stated that, there was practicality of policy formulation and administration, Core-Values that guide the University’s mode of operation, the curriculum of the Living Faith Commission which harps on the tripartite nature of man (Spirit, Soul & Body.), and the approach of the full boarding facilities for students which helps to avoid distractions.
On the successes of the Living Faith Commission in the education sector, they unanimously stated that products of the Living Faith Church Universities have proven themselves in all fields of human endeavours due to the input of experienced Staff and Faculty guided by laid down principles. Speaking on the required strategic improvements of the University, the discussants encouraged Landmark University to strive further in gaining international linkages and collaborations, which is one of the benchmarks of rating world class Universities across the globe.
Wishing everyone present a happy 54th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Afolayan, enthused the University community to speed up their commitment to the regular University’s Friday Farm Practice, the exercise of which would soon be mechanised, thereby making it easy to achieve the agrarian vision of the University.
Prof. Afolayan eulogised the Chancellor on his 60th birthday, the servant of God whom he said has not deviated from the teachings of Mathew 6V33 ever since he met him 42 years ago. He added that the Chancellor’s addiction to the things of God was what brought him to where he is today. He therefore urged students to borrow a leaf from his lifestyle and be committed to the principle of the Lord Jesus Christ, where lies the secret of impactful life. To all students who are desirous of a successful sojourn on the campus, the Ag Vice-Chancellor advised to be positive thinkers, diligent and spiritually minded.
